Experiencing God in Dance:
Sandy's Story

By Dan Holmes

Sandy is a woman who determined to set aside time to seek the face of Jesus. A good dance performance on her part was not enough for her. She thirsted and longed for the intimacy that comes with waiting for His leading. We want to share her story with you because it so clearly expresses God's longing that we would first seek His face. Once we arrive in that place He releases to us choreography that comes down from heaven and danced t through us by His Spirit upon the earth.

This is the essence of us waiting for His leading and not simply choreographing a dance and expecting Him to bless something of our own making. His leading comes down upon us like a cloak, or covering, that God places over our shoulders. Once He lays it upon us, even the simplest movement which He dances through us can soften hearts of rock and move mountains of resistance in those who observe it. We who dance such a dance wonder why others are touched so deeply when it seemed like we did so little. When Elisha received Elijah's cloak in 2 Kings he took it and performed mighty miracles in the simplest ways, whereas before he had it in his possession he could do nothing no matter how hard he might have tried.

Yet this “cloak” often comes at a cost for those whom God has placed it on. It may have been a desert experience, a gnawing sense of loneliness, rejection from others, a dissatisfaction with this life, or maybe just His quiet voice within us beckoning us to come be with Him. Whatever the motivating factor, the end result is that these people were left with a desperation to find the face of God. It is much more then deciding to embark on a scripture reading program, or a resolve to pray more. It is possessing a heart like the woman in the Song of Songs who cried out, “Let Him kiss me with the kisses of His mouth, for His love His better then wine”.

As the time is drawing nearer for His second coming He is stirring in the hearts of many these days to seek His face, His presence, His kiss. Stop for a moment and ask yourself if He might not right now be calling you. He has a cloak, a beautiful gown of intimacy for you to wear, to dance in. Look, He cradles it in His arms, as He waits for you to come. He calls many, but few come...so many distractions...so many things to do, so little time to wait for His kiss.

Take a moment to read the following response from Sandy. It will encourage and inspire you! She made a deliberate decision to respond to His call, and in the next moment, He came in like a flood.

Sandy's Story

I just had to respond to your to your article entitled, "Shall We Dance?: Seeking His Face-part 1". I have really enjoyed this reading so much that when I finished reading it I began to cry. This has truly ministered to my spirit and it was a confirmation to what the Lord has been dealing with me. The Lord has told me that everyday as I have that time in prayer with Him that I must dance before him and seek His face through the dance.

One day I got up early so that I could get my 2 year old son ready for school and when I returned home after taking him to school I felt that I needed to spend time with the Lord in prayer. I remembered what the Lord instructed me to do, so I just put on a worship tape and just began to worship Him in the dance. As I did so I felt the Holy Spirit leading me in moves that I have never done before and the more He lead me the more I began to move in the Spirit. As He lead me in the dance the spirit of worship began to fill my dining room and kitchen area where I was dancing before Him. I had danced through 4 or more worship songs at this time then at the end of the 4th song I ended up on my face laying flat on my face on the floor crying out to God in worship, tears streaming down my face, and my nose running. I did not care about a running nose, the present of the Lord was in the room and I did not want to move from that place. I stayed right there on my face for an hour or more crying and worshiping the Lord in spirit. I began to say to the Lord, "Yes Lord I will dance for You," "Yes Lord it is by your leading and I will wait for your move."

Are you thirsty for Him? Is your biggest dream to be a hip hop worship dance star or be known as one who is lead and loved by God? He may turn you into a hip hop star...but seek His face first and then He will do the rest. He loves to show you off, but He won't until He first knows He has your heart. He has a holy jealousy for you.
